Medicare Part D
The Medicare prescription drug
coverage, sometimes called Medicare Part D, offers various types of
prescription coverage. All people with Medicare are eligible to
enroll in a drug plan. You must choose from among
several different prescription drug plans so that you have the
coverage that suits your needs the best.
Anyone who has Medicare Parts A
and/or B can apply for Medicare's prescription drug coverage.
To receive drug coverage, Medicare
beneficiaries MUST enroll in
a Medicare prescription drug plan.
New beneficiaries can
enroll in a Medicare prescription drug
plan three months before, the month of, and three months after they
first become eligible for Medicare. Existing Medicare beneficiaries
can join a plan (or switch plans) between November 15th
and December 31st (goes into effect January 1st).
Because there are added costs to
enroll in the new Medicare prescription program, Extra Help provides financial
assistance to help pay for the plans costs for people who qualify.
You can apply for
Extra Help
on the web or contact the Social Security Administration toll-free
at 1.800.772.1213 to request a paper application.
