Illinois Cares Rx

Illinois Cares Rx will give Illinois Medicare recipients who qualify help to pay for some of the costs for this new prescription drug program.

Illinois Cares Rx, combines and improves the Circuit Breaker Pharmaceutical Assistance and Senior Care programs. To remain on the Illinois Cares Rx program, beneficiaries must apply for Extra Help through Social Security. Illinois Cares Rx helps pay the premiums, co-payments and deductibles for the new Medicare prescription drug program.

There is a co-pay, and once Illinois Cares Rx has paid $1,750 in benefits, you will be required to pay 20% of the cost of each prescription drug purchased.

You may be eligible for Illinois Cares Rx if:

  • you are age 65 or older (or 63 and a spouse of a deceased previously eligible person), or
  • disabled regardless of age, and
  • your annual income is no more than $22,793 (single) $30,594 (couple), and
  • you are an Illinois resident.
